Fomenko to lead Ukraine

Fomenko will finish the job and take Ukraine to Euro 2016
Mykhaylo Fomenko today has been confirmed as Ukraine’s manager for Euro 2016.  Fomenko’s contract expired on November 30th, following Ukraine’s Play-Off victory against Slovenia and there had been speculation that Fomenko may be replaced.  Today however, the FFU unanimously agreed that Fomenko was the man to guide Ukraine forward.

The ambition have been set high by Fomenko saying his aim is to win Euro 2016.  Fomenko’s contract will run until the end of tournament and then there will be further discussions as to the role of head coach.  The back room staff have not been confirmed but there are expected to be changes and new faces involve. with rumours of Andriy Shevchenko being handed a role persisting.

Also at the FFU meeting, Oleksandr Holovko was confirmed as U21 manager, Oleh Kuznetsov as U19 manager, Oleksandr Petrakov as U17/18 and Serhiy Popov as U16/17 coach.

We anticipate Fomenko’s squad
As something of a competition, we have decided to take our own stab as manager of Ukraine.  We have all named our own 23 man Ukraine squads, to take to the Euro’s.  One point for each player named in our squads who gets on the plane to France.

It is a gamble at this early stage, players could pick up injuries, drastically lose form.  A young gem could creep out of the woodwork and become a must pick.  A striker who goes on a great scoring run, its a tough call six months out from the tournament, but one we have all made.

Despite the inexperience, Petro has Andriy Pylyavskyi in his squad
